Open evening at John Smeaton Academy

John Smeaton Academy began an exciting transformation in September 2021 when it joined one of the most successful Multi-Academy Trust’s in the country: The GORSE Academies Trust.

Since then, we have made significant strides forward in all areas of school life; external reviews have consistently evidenced that children now enjoy coming to school, feel safe, and are very well-supported to ‘Secure the Gift of Choice’.

As a committed and passionate staff body, we believe that it is imperative students are given an array of opportunities to support them in acquiring a rich and varied skillset as well as a strong qualification base so that, at any point in their future, they are able to actively choose their next steps as opposed to having avenues closed off to them. Students at John Smeaton Academy are now motivated and enthusiastic about their education and are reaping the rewards inside and outside of the classroom including within the academy’s extensive Enrichment++ offer which includes the trust’s BIG 3: karate, volleyball and rowing amongst the traditional sports and extra-curricular offer.

As Principal, I am committed to the young people and the community that John Smeaton Academy serves and remain excited about the continuing improvements to the student experience at John Smeaton Academy. I have absolute confidence that the rapid improvements that were achieved last academic year will continue at pace. I am passionate about student leadership and I am very proud of the contribution students at John Smeaton Academy make to the community on a daily basis.

Before I started in post at John Smeaton Academy I was told that it was a unique school with a big heart, one which takes seriously it’s responsibility to society and wants to positively influence and shape the future for all. I am delighted to confirm this is most definitely the case and it is set within a culture of enjoyment and rigour.

We recognise that selecting the right secondary school for your child is a very important decision.
