The event is aimed entirely at the under 15s and as well as raising money for charity, aims to get more youngsters interested in sport.
Though launched by the organisers of the Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10K Run for All, the May 10 junior run will be part of the Leeds Half Marathon.
Jane's widower Mike, 47, said: "We were always really keen, Jane and I, to promote sport among kids, especially those who leave school and drift away from sport.

The new junior event will incorporate a 2.5-kilometre junior run for children between nine and 15 and a separate 1.5k mini run for three to eight year olds (with accompanying adult).
There will also be a school challenge with team prizes in primary and secondary school categories.
Jane Tomlinson's Junior Run and Mini Fun Run, like all Run For All events, is not for profit and is set up to raise funds for a range of charities.
Jane's Appeal, which helps children's and cancer charities, will benefit from entries to the event and those who take part are encouraged to raise funds for the charity or good cause dear to them.
