And it seems Jane Tomlinson's daughter, 23-year-old teacher Suzanne is a chip off the old block.

She has signed up dozens of kids from her school, Corpus Christie Catholic College in Halton, to take part in the first ever Jane Tomlinson Junior and Mini Fun Run.

The youngsters were inspired after hearing about Jane and her incredible fundraising legacy.

Suzanne, a mother-of-one, said: "I announced the run at a whole school assembly and had a great response from the pupils. as most of them know who Jane was and that she was my mum.

"Also a lot of them do running and other sports in and out of school and wanted to join in because of that aspect."

More than 30 children have so far signed up for the 2.5km run, which will form part of the Leeds Half Marathon in May. There will also be a separate 1.5k mini run for three to eight year olds (with accompanying adult).

Schools from across the city are being encouraged to take part and raise funds for a charity of their choice.

Corpus Christie will raise money for Suzanne's mum's charity – Jane's Appeal – the church charity, Good Shepherd and for a school in Tanzania.

Jane died in September 2007 after a seven-year battle with cancer. She raised £1.85m for charities through a series of gruelling physical challenges.
