And they're off...
Mike and Rebecca Tomlinson began their 1,400 mile ride from John O'Groats to Lands End – despite fierce winds and rain north of the border.
The duo are following in the cycle tracks of wife and mum Jane who hit the headlines after completing the same challenge in 2003 – two years after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

After she died in September last year, Mike, 47, and Rebecca, 20, vowed to repeat the feat in her memory.

They hope sponsorship of the End to End Challenge will help push Jane's Appeal over £2m. When she died she had collected £1.75m for children's and cancer charities.

Mike and Rebecca, of Rothwell, Leeds, will cycle about 60 miles a day, taking in Edinburgh, Leeds and London, with the aim of reaching Land's End on July 31.

On five selected days, up to 100 members of the public will be able to accompany them.

Mr Tomlinson described the journey as a "memorial" for his late wife. He said: "Immediately after Jane died we wanted to do something to remember her by, and a family journey seemed fitting." To donate: www.just giving.com/janesappeal end2end cycling challenge.
