Councillor Karen Renshaw has branded the situation as "shambolic" and is calling on the council to take action to prevent the unsightly long grass creating a hazard for elderly residents.

Western Road residents are especially frustrated as contractors destroyed an original rose bed several years ago because it was listed as grass on their computer.

Councillor Karen Renshaw (Lab, Ardsley & Robin Hood) told Rothwell Today: "I can't believe something as simple as cutting the grass has become so difficult. All I am asking for is some common sense – you only have to look at the state of the area to see that something needs to be done.

"The whole situation is shambolic. Contractors on mowers destroyed the original rose bed because the area was listed as grass. Now they won't cut the grass. Leaving one side of the path in this state makes the area look at a mess, and it is becoming a hazard for elderly people.

"There have been numerous problems with the contractors responsible for the grass cutting over the last couple of years – it is incredibly frustrating that the council doesn't seem able to sort the system out."
