Nicola Hudson and a friend barricaded themselves and ex-boyfriend Dale Moore's one-year-old child in a bedroom when Moore broke into her home in Rothwell for the second time within days, Leeds Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor, Michael Smith said Moore, 28, was slurring his words as he shouted to Miss Hudson: "Look what you have done, the police are here, I'm off to Armley now. No-one is coming in, I've got a knife."

Police put a ladder up to the first floor bedroom of the house on Queensway and rescued the child, Miss Hudson and her friend Emma Warren.

Moore, who had lived with Miss Hudson, swore and threatened to kill police as armed response officers tried to persuade him to drop the knife.

Police shot Moore with a Taser stun gun and he was arrested.Moore told officers he had drunk four cans of Stella and was "feeling tipsy" during the incident on August 18.

Three days earlier, on August 15, Miss Hudson had called police because she was having problems with Moore.

Police took Moore away and later released him without charge.

The court heard Miss Warren considered the relationship over but Moore went back to the house on August 16 and broke in through a window.
Miss Hudson barricaded herself in the bedroom before Moore got in, saying: "I'm home" as he walked up the stairs.

Police were called and Moore was arrested and appeared in court on August 18.

He was bailed and went back to the house later that day when the knife incident happened.

Stuart Field, for Moore, said Miss Hudson was in court to support him.

He added: "This man's problem is drink."

Jailing Moore for 18 months, Recorder Toby Wynn said it 'beggared belief' that Moore put his partner and child through such an ordeal.

Moore had admitted two charges of criminal damage and one of affray.
