June and Peter Johnson were bowled over when they realised they had netted £87,170 by matching five numbers and the bonus ball.

They realised they had won when they checked their numbers in the Sunday papers and immediately went out to celebrate - with a game of bowls.

The couple are now deciding how to spend their winnings and said a new car, a conservatory and a birthday celebration for Mrs Johnson later this month were at the top of their wish-list.

Mrs Johnson, 56, an accountant, said: "Peter was reading the Sunday papers, and when he got to the section where the Lotto numbers were, he read them out so I could check the ticket.

"We couldn't believe it when we realised we had won, I rang my son straight away.

"I was shaking but we decided to go and play bowls, although I couldn't concentrate. We are so happy."

Mrs Johnson has one son, who is in the RAF, while Mr Johnson, 73, has six children, 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The couple have played the lottery since it began more than 13 years ago and bought their winning ticket at a supermarket in Hunslet, Leeds.
