Rothwell Neighbourhood Policing Team's side - made up of local police officers and police community support officers (PCSOs) - ran out 6-5 winners in the match against the club's U-15s team.

The game, on pitches next to the Rose Lund Centre, helped the club raise over £150 for the club to take part in the Catalunia Cup in Spain next May while also building closer links between officers and local young people.

Afterwards the officers each received a bottle of wine as a thank you for their efforts, while the Rothwell Town players were presented with special 'dog tag' style chains marked with the date of the match.

Sgt Paul Denison, who captained the NPT side, told Rothwell Today: "It was definitely a game of two halves and we all had a great laugh, although there were a few stiff legs the morning afterwards.

"Being able to support this group of lads is important to the NPT, because it shows that we're genuinely interested in them and what affects them in our community, so hopefully this will be the first of many chances we have to build strong friendships with them and other teams through sport.

"As for the yellow card I received, it really was a badly timed challenge and nothing malicious!"
