Dr Ian Cameron, Director of Public Health for NHS Leeds, said: "I can confirm that a child from St Mary's Primary in Rothwell has been found to have the swine flu virus.
"At the moment there is no evidence that the virus has spread and therefore the school will remain open for the time-being.
As a precaution we are offering all children and staff at the school anti-viral medicines to reduce the chances of the virus spreading," said Dr Cameron.
"We are working with Rothwell St Mary's, the Health Protection Agency and the local authorities to closely monitor the school."
