Rothwell's own indie rockers The Pigeon Detectives have proved they are top of the charts when it comes to helping out a good cause.
The band have donated £6,000 raised by a show in April at their home city's Cockpit club to a fund set up for long-time fan Brad Hodgson.

Brad, a father-of-two from Rothwell, has been in Wakefield's Pinderfields Hospital since he was badly hurt in a road crash in December 2006.

Speaking before the band's appearance at Scotland's T In The Park festival today, Pigeons guitarist Ryan Wilson said: "Helping Brad out means a lot to us.

"What happened to him could have happened to any of us and we're glad to help."

Fresh from the release of second album Emergency, the Pigeons, from Rothwell, got a rapturous reception at Glastonbury.
