Leeds United enjoyed a fruitful 2022/23 transfer haul, bringing in a total of nine senior players and spending about £80 million in the summer window alone.
They followed up their spending spree in January, welcoming 20-year-old Georginio Rutter from Hoffenheim. The forward’s £35 million price tag eclipsed the club’s previous transfer record set by Rodrigo back in 2020.
As well as Rutter, the likes of Brenden Aaronson and Luis Sinisterra also made the move to Elland Road to contribute to Leeds’ fight to stay in the Premier League.
It has certainly been an eventful couple of windows for the Whites and sporting director Victor Orta, who has been getting deals over the threshold for the club since he joined in 2017.
In the last six years, Orta has finalised 47 permanent player moves to Leeds United. Let’s take a look back at every signing orchestrated by the Spaniard since his first window at Elland Road. How many of these can you remember?
1. Hadi Sacko
Hadi Sacko was one of the first players Victor Orta brought to Leeds. The Mali winger signed in 2017 and managed just three goals and four assists in 60 appearances.
2. Laurens De Bock
Despite being on Leeds’ books for four years, Laurens De Bock made just seven appearances for the club and was sent out on loan on four separate occasions before signing for Zulte Waregem in 2022.
3. Andy Lonergan
Andy Lonergan is a man of many clubs. He first signed for Leeds in 2011 before being sold a year later, but he returned on a free transfer in 2017 under Orta.
4. Sam Dalby
Sam Dalby joined Leeds in 2018 but did not make a single senior appearance. A year later, he left for Watford, where he also failed to break into the first team. Dalby has since played for the likes of Southend United and Wrexham.
5. Pawel Cibicki
Former Sweden youth international Pawel Cibicki was another elusive Leeds signing. The forward spent three years with the Whites, but played just seven games and scored zero goals. Cibicki was sent on loan three times before leaving Leeds in 2020 to join Pogoń Szczecin.
6. Caleb Ekuban
Caleb Ekuban was another forward who struggled to get off the ground with Leeds. He joined in 2017 and spent two years with the side before moving on to pastures new with Trabzonspor and Genoa respectively.
