Hide AdScotland had received a bye into the second group stage of the tournament with 20 nations from five confederations all involved.
It was the opening clash for both sides in Group A, and Bremner's side led late on thanks to a double from forward Lou Macari.
Disaster struck, though, as an own goal from Martin Buchan in the 87th minute saw the points shared.
Scotland failed to progress from the group as hosts Brazil went on to lift the trophy beating Portugal in the final which was hosted at the Maracana stadium.
