1. M&S Company Archive
Join the M&S Company Archive for a look through the Leeds-originating company's fascinating collection of historic images and material. Take a look at the changing face of the British high street, as seen in vintage adverts and archive training films during this free online talk. Online event on June 24 at 12.30pm.
2. Leeds City Museum
Celebrate Insect Week at Leeds City Museum from June 21 to 27 when they’ll be celebrating all things creepy, crawly, minibeast and pollinator. The museum will be hosting a range of activities for families to get involved with including bug hotels, meeting a scientist and learning more about protecting bugs.
3. Lotherton Hall
Japanese art workshop on June 25 at 10.30am. A chance to work with artist Sarah-Jane Mason to explore different techniques and materials such as block printing and brush painting. Inspired by Lotherton’s stunning Making Japan exhibition, the event will be taking place indoors at Lotherton Hall Museum. Book on Leeds Town Hall site.
4. Opera North
Orchestra of Opera North: Brass - And All That Jazz is on Monday, June 21 at 1.05pm. Exchanging their tailcoats for something a little more comfortable, bringing the sounds of the clubs and ballrooms of Harlem to Leeds Town Hall for a lunchtime concert of sophisticated, swinging jazz suites and songs.
5. Abbey House Museum
Writer-in-residence at Abbey House Museum Chris Nickson is releasing his ninth Tom Harper novel and 25th book set in Leeds. It is set in 1913 as Tom Harper rises to become Deputy Chief Constable of Leeds - the promotion brings meetings, paperwork, and responsibilities. Brass Lives is available on June 24. 6. John Lewis pop up
Baby fashion brand Little Black Outfit will be popping up in the John Lewis store in Victoria Gate from June 21 to June 27. It specialises in simple and stylish black clothing for babies sizes 0 to 24 months. There will be free goody bags and discount vouchers from small independent businesses.
